Waterways Pollution around the World
The world wide problem of Waterways pollution is one of the biggest health issues, and there are also many ways in how water pollution is caused. Water that runs into rivers, steams and lakes pick toxic chemicals, dirt, trash and diseases that can carry organisms on their way. Flood water actually poses a lot of threats as fast rushing water picks up things like paper, food, plastic, rubbish, metallic and aluminium waste that ends up in our rivers. With water covering more than 70% of our earths surface and with water pollution effecting our survival, do you really think we should keep doing what we are, or should we change our ways and start looking after our environments? Close to around 125 million people are at risk of toxic pollution across 49 low to middle income countries. The impact on low to middle income countries is significant with 98% of adults and 99% of children being affected by exposure to lead.
The Scale of the Problem
On the scale of Global crises, Waterways pollution is presented as a major challenge for the human population. The scales have ranged from local to global with 80% of the global population facing exposure to high threats of water insecurity.
Almost 5 million deaths in and around developing worlds is caused by water related diseases. The major problems with pollution in waterways is that it's killing aquatic animals, disrupting food chains and is responsible for the destruction of ecosystems, therefore diseases are occurring. One of the causes of these diseases are pathogens found in the water. These pathogens can cause gastro -intestinal problems which can be fatal to babies.
